Description: The numerous yellow buds of this annual wildflower are featured in dense terminal leafy spikes, and appear at the height of summer. It grows tall and straight, and is a beautiful focal point in a prairie meadow or dry flowerbed. Historically this flower has been used by First Nations people as a source of red dye.

Found in Nature: Dry, open sites; plains to montane.

Distribution: BC and Alberta to New Mexico.
