This plant is elegant, as its Latin name implies, with its crisp white blooms and long graceful leaves. It makes a showy addition to any garden and makes a unique specimen plant but comes with a warning label regarding its toxicity. Like many plants Camas are poisonous but because of their resemblance to an onion they might be more of a concern. Z. venenosus - Death Camas, most resemble an onion in size and form and is highly poisonous hence its ominous name. White Camas are a larger plant and less toxic but still poisonous. When confused between Onions and Camas remember that onions smell like onions! Camas are slow growing and take 3-5 years to bloom from seed.
