Description: This Fireweed is smaller and less aggressive than its more common cousin and it is said to be better tasting as well. Flowers and buds can be added to salads and young leaves cooked like spinach. It is a pioneer species often showing up on disturbed sites after floods. Its smaller size and the fact that it does not spread by rhizomes makes it a better choice for urban gardens. Fireweed is a great choice for attracting hummingbirds and native bees to your yard.

Found in Nature: Along stream banks and gravelly flood plains.

Distribution: Northern Hemisphere

Notes: Potted stock available for pick-up only.
Genus name recently changed from Epilobium

Important Information: The "Bloom Period" is an indicator of the time period within which the wildflowers will bloom and does not describe the time period that a single plant will bloom. The "Sizes" listed are intended to be a general guideline to consult during plant selection. Plant growth and bloom times will vary depending on geographical location & individual site conditions.
