Description: This wildflower is a welcome sight when it appears in the early spring, often through the snow. Soft purple blooms turn to fluffy seed heads that linger into the summer and have an extended presence in the garden. Prairie Crocus is a slow-growing species that can disappear completely by late summer when small. Plant in a well-drained sunny spot.

Found in Nature: Well-drained open prairie meadows and sunny hillsides.

Distribution: Prairies, Foothill to Subalpine

Notes: Latin name recently changed from Pulsatilla patens to Pulsatilla nuttalliana

Important Information: The "Bloom Period" is an indicator of the time period within which the wildflowers will bloom and does not describe the time period that a single plant will bloom. The "Sizes" listed are intended to be a general guideline to consult during plant selection. Plant growth and bloom times will vary depending on geographical location & individual site conditions.
