Description: This wildflower can get very tall and is a rhizome spreader so it needs lots of room to grow but it has great presence in a large landscape. Fireweed is a pioneer plant often showing up on disturbed sites and will grow in the open or in wooded areas. It is edible, used as a tea, eaten in salads or prepared like asparagus. This is a beautiful bold wildflower with showy flowers and great fall color.

Found in Nature: Open sites to wooded areas, often on disturbed ground.

Distribution: Foothills, Montane

Important Information: The "Bloom Period" is an indicator of the time period within which the wildflowers will bloom and does not describe the time period that a single plant will bloom. The "Sizes" listed are intended to be a general guideline to consult during plant selection. Plant growth and bloom times will vary depending on geographical location & individual site conditions.
