Smell the Flowers

Wild About Flowers operates out of Turner Valley, AB as producers of Native Alberta Wildflowers and promoters of Native Plants in Landscaping and Gardening. 

We collect our seed in Southern Alberta and grow our wildflowers completely outdoors to produce hardy naturally acclimatize plants that are in-tune with the growing season.

Visit Us

You are welcome to visit us by appointment from April 15 to September 31. Receive a private consultation and shop through our diverse selection of Native Wildflowers availabable as seeds, plugs or larger potted stock.

We are located 10 km south of Black Diamond, AB about 40 minutes southwest of Calgary. Appointments must be booked at least 24 hours in advance, call 403-933-3903.

Look for us at the Calgary Horticultural Societies 2010 Garden Show April 10th, & 11th at Spruce Meadows this year.

We invite you to visit us in the spring of 2010 at the Millarville Farmers Market, 8:30am to noon, Saturdays starting in mid June.

This workshop will focus on native wildflowers and how you can incorporate them into your yard and garden. Enjoy a colorful slideshow and interactive descusion designed to aid you in selecting site appropreate plants for your space.

Gardening With Native Wildflowers
A Dames on the Range Event!

June 13, 2010

Get to know Alberta wildflowers and learn how you can incorporate them into your landscape. Enjoy a colorful slide show and interactive discussion in the morning, drive the scenic cowboy trail south to join Dame Heidi of Alberta Parks and after lunch, explore a fescue grassland with the wildflowers in full bloom at Beauvais Lake Provincial Park. Native wildflowers will be available for sale as seeds or plants at a 15% discount for workshop participants. A “Dames 200 km” lunch is provided and you can choose to finish off the day with a wind-down dinner around the campfire at Chimney Rock Bed & Breakfast where accommodations are also available.

Wildflowers of the Whaleback
A Dames on the Range Event!

July 18 , 2010

Partake in the splendor of our native wildflowers during their peek bloom period. This hiking workshop will focus on finding and identifying as many native Alberta wildflowers as possible. We will be accompanied by Dame Heidi of Alberta Parks on this spectacular day hike into Bob Creek Wildland culminating with a ridge walk of indescribable beauty. A “Dames 200 km” lunch is provided! (A horse drawn wagon ride will make trip back easy. Unconfirmed.) You can also choose to finish the day with a 200 km dinner around the campfire at Chimney Rock where Ma Dame Debbie is guaranteed to provide excellent food and folk stories. Accommodations are also available.

Serious Seed Collection & Edible, Medical Plant Workshop

We will join Dame Julie of Full Circle Adventures for a unique day of native plant exploration. Learn about the history and uses of our native plants and how you can incorporate them into your life and landscape. This workshop includes a colorful slideshow and interactive discussion followed by a hike in the afternoon where we will identify, discuss and collect seed from many different species of native plants. A 200 km Dames lunch is provided. You can choose to wrap up the day with a 200 km Dames Dinner and local history with Ma Dame around the campfire at Chimney Rock Bed & Breakfast where accommodations and tall Tony tales are also available.

The Fall Landscape
A Dames on the Range Event!

September 18, 2010

Enjoy the autumn landscape and learn about the fall features of our native wildflowers, trees and shrubs. We will focus on fall foliage color, berries and interesting seed heads with a slide show and interactive discussion on incorporating native plants into your garden to enhance your fall landscape. Dame Heidi from Alberta Parks will lead a 3 hour hike in the afternoon along a fantastic ridge in Bob Creek Wildland. You will walk along limber pine lined sandstone outcrops, crunch through fall leaves of the aspen and with some luck spot migrating eagles and kestrels amidst the crisp blue skies and fall colors. A wonderful day for Autumn lovers! A “Dames 200 km” lunch is provided. You can choose to end the day with a 200 km Dames Dinner and local history with Ma Dame around the campfire at Chimney Rock Bed & Breakfast where accommodations and Tall Tony Tales are also available.
